This morning at the front window
Time stood still.
We watched the cardinals and unknown birds hop around
In the turned up soil gathering breakfast.
The rain fell lightly into puddles
Making ripples
That spread slowly to the edges.
My youngest signed "bird"
My oldest laughed with glee
The love of my life stood behind watching with us.
Nothing else mattered,
Not the dishes
Not the papers to be graded
Not the toy that was and will be fought over.
We just sat there
Smiling out at our front yard
The yard that will soon be filled with new life and growth.
Here inside our cozy home, growth sometimes
Seems to happen much too fast.
I wished in that moment
That time could stand still
Forever.
